Even with all this, crossing the border into Alaska has been my greatest achievement. Of all my missions, driving to Alaska felt like the ‘impossible mountain’ I could not defeat.
Right as I crossed the border, rain clouds scattered to reveal blue skies, emphasized by a bright yellow sun. I stood on a rocky cliff, gazing out at miles of rolling green trees. My view to the north was wonderfully clear, complete with a rainbow arcing over the entire landscape. It was the perfect welcome to the land I’d been dreaming so deeply about. I raised my fists into the air, “ALASKA!”
At 33 years old, I made it.
